L'Shana Tova!

ShofarRosh Hashanah, (the Feast of Trumpets), began last night, so I would like to wish all our Jewish readers "L'Shana Tova" (Happy New Year), and a "Hag Sameah" (Happy Holiday) as we enter into the Hebrew year 5770.

During the next three weeks there are a number of important Holy days on the Jewish calendar including Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) and Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles). To read more about these feasts check out Leviticus 23:23-44.

What gorgeous colors. No matter how hard we try, God still comes out the master painter. Now, don't tell me that is your painting, Graham. LOL

Very true Deboraw. No, it's not one of mine unfortunately!

It's like I was saying on the 'Pictures of Creation' post, for a picture to look truly awesome, it needs to look real, almost photographic! Particularly if the subject is nature e.g. Storms, mountains, sunsets etc.
Only the real thing takes our breath away!

The problem with realism in Bible pictures that depict people is that there is a tendency on the part of many Bible artists (who use photographic reference) to sanitize the setting by showing beautifully clean clothes instead of torn dirty ones, or they tend to over sentimentalize the setting.

I actually thought this was a photo Graham. I agree regarding the clothes. Almost like American Western pastoral settings where the homesteaders have crisp white shirts and their sweat doesn't leave stains. :))

This is a photo Paul. Sorry, my last comment was confusing!

Well, Graham, the photo did look real. LOL. Now, Paul, if you were one of those American settlers, wouldn't you wear a white shirt to have your picture painted? You wouldn't want to be immortalized in a dirty, sweat stained shirt either! LOL Deboraw

I guess so Deboraw. :))

Paul is an American settler Deboraw.
I can see him in a crisp white 'Roy Rogers' shirt!

LOL! I had that exact vision of Paul also! In starched white shirt, I mean. LOL. My husband and youngest son spent time this summer as (part-time) volunteers at a local "Living History Farm" at which they had to wear 'period clothing'. Even though they were 'blacksmiths' from the 1875 period, they wore long sleeved cotton shirts, cotton slacks (not denim), a vest, and a bowler (?) hat. Everything-- except the hat-- was starched--crisp. My husband's shirt was white with blue stripes. Sadly, I sent them off in clean, starched outfits, but when they arrived home...

My Grandfather was a 'farrier', a horseshoer, and a farmer. He would not wear anything but a clean white shirt. He had the same problem as my husband and son had this past summer. At the end of the day, his shirt went in the laundry. Needless to say, we girls knew how to iron.

Okay, Paul, now you must be immortalized in your crisp white Roy Rodgers shirt. LOL! Smile, Deboraw

It's so hot in Virginia I always wear t-shirts from May to October Deboraw. LOL When I first came here I wore shirts all the time but they soon felt too heavy in the summer. But I wear shirts in winter. Nice and crisp and clean! Just like Roy Rogers. I'll have to buy a cowboy hat and use it as my profile photo. :))

Yes, A white cowboy hat Paul! And don't forget the fringe on the shirt, and the fancy boots!

Well, there you go, and now it's almost winter. You'll be just right! Virginia gets quite a bit more rain than we do here, I imagine. When we were in Tennessee they received nearly double what we get. So it is more humid...usually. How did them old timers where their long johns all year round? And not pass out I mean...don't really need details. very embarrassed face. Deboraw

Graham, was it late last night or what...I meant 'wear' and I had another thought for Paul. As long as he's doing the Roy Rodgers thing, where's Trigger. How about the horse, Paul...Palomino or no? LOL Deboraw

There are horse stables down the road from our house Deboraw. They have a beautiful pinto horse that roams their fields. So that would be my horse of choice. Now I have to learn to ride it! LOL

Weirdwesterns is Paul Green. LOL For some reason Google wouldn't accept my Blogger password so I used my Wordpress account login.
That's the name of my newly published book. Plug!!

A few years ago a girl friend and I needed milk cows for our respective households. We went to visit a farm way south of us, and when we drove up, they must have had 40 Jerseys, and at least 40 pintos (mares--didn't include the foals). Beautiful animals. Both of us being lovers of Jersey cows and horses, we thought we had died and gone to heaven! Alas, we could barely afford the cows we had come after, had to leave the horses alone. Sigh. I do like my Morgan, however. He's irreplaceable. Smile. Deboraw

Paul:
The Roy Rogers outfit will be a great way to promote your new 'Weird Westerns' book Paul. You could wear it to book signings!

Deboraw:
Is Morgan your husband or your horse?

Paul Green said...

Believe it or not Roy Rogers has a listing in my book Graham. He appeared in a Western involving a space rocket. That was one crazy singing cowboy. LOL

Bible artist said...

LOL! Amazing!

Now you need to learn how to ride a horse and play a guitar!

Horse. Husband is Chris, horse is Aargorn. Morgan is the breed. Ha! Say, Paul it's not hard to ride a horse. When we were little we just hopped on and invariably we went somewhere. My Grandmother used to say, "But you don't know if that horse has ever been ridden before..." and I would say, 'Well, it has now." LOL Here's to the success of your new endeavor, Paul! Smile. Deboraw
